Title: Downloading Service Packs Post by: jsky on January 16, 2008, 08:22:25 PM Just a word to everyone.
In the past, when downloading a service pack even from Windows Update (WU). You would download the complete package before installation would commence. For the newest service packs, you will notice that they will seem to take forever to download. No the servers are not being over run. Now when you download a service pack through WU. Part of the service packs will start to install itself while it is downloading. You will still get the message asking for permission to install when it's complete. But especially with Vista, the service pack is so large that it takes quite a while to install itself. So if it seems to just sit there for awhile with (what ever per-cent) downloaded. Don't think it's your connection. It's just the way it's being downloaded. Title: Re: Downloading Service Packs Post by: needTOS on March 26, 2008, 07:21:47 PM Thanks for that information. I wondered why it took forever to install SP1 for my Vista machine.
Sounds like it could be a problem that way though, if the computer loses connection, or freezes when downloading, but is half-way through installation. Guess I'll have to keep a look out on how this works out for them. -Steve |
