IE-SPYAD & AGNIS Lists Updated (Feb 5)Hi All: IE-SPYAD (the IE Restricted zone list) and AGNIS (the AtGuard/NIS/NPF/Outpost/AdShield ad block list) have been updated again. They can be downloaded from: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htmPlease note that the "original" Reg-file-based IE-SPYAD & IE-SPYAD2 have been replaced by IE-SPYAD for ZonedOut. ZonedOut is a free, convenient utility for maintaining IE zone lists. You can find a link to ZonedOut as well as the IE-SPYAD list used with it on the traditional download page listed above. The AGNIS block lists are compatible with AtGuard 3.x and ALL versions of NIS as well as NPF 2003 and 2004. There are separate versions AGNIS for users of Agnitum Outpost and AdShield. If you're running any of the most recent versions of NIS or NPF, you must use the ProWAGoN utility written by Christian Haagensen to load, remove, and backup block lists: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm#prowagonIf you have questions or comments about IE-SPYAD or any of the AGNIS lists, please don't hesitate to let me know. Best, Eric L. Howes eburger68@myrealbox.com Please remember to re-immunize with SpywareBlaster & Spybot S&D. Some items considered non-threats or defunct are disabled by IE-Spyad.

Updates / Anti-malware Updates / IE-SPYAD & AGNIS Lists
|
on: February 05, 2008, 06:25:07 PM
|
IE-SPYAD: Restricted Sites List for Internet Explorer IE-SPYAD adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer.Once you merge this list of sites and domains into the Registry, the web sites for these companies will not be able to use cookies, ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on your PC.Please note that IE-SPYAD is not an ad blocker. It will not block standard banner ads in Internet Explorer. What this Restricted sites list of known advertisers and crapware pushers will do, however, is: - stop unwanted crapware from being installed behind your
back via "drive-by-downloads"; - prevent the hijacking of your home page and other key
Internet Explorer settings; - shut down ActiveX, Java, and scripting, all of which can
be employed to push obnoxious advertising on you and compromise your privacy and security; - block cookies, which can be used to monitor and track your
travels around the Internet; - combat obnoxious script-based popups that clutter your
screen and force unwanted advertising on you. All of my block lists have been updated, including:- E-SPYAD (original)
- IE-SPYAD2
- IE-SPYAD for ZonedOut
- AGNIS (for AtGuard/NIS/NPF)
- AGNIS for Outpost
- AGNIS for AdShield
- AGNIS Sites List

Updates / Anti-malware Updates / MVPS HOSTS File Updates
|
on: January 20, 2008, 08:21:10 AM
|
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
What it does ... The Hosts file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. This file is loaded into memory (cache) at startup, then Windows checks the Hosts file before it queries any DNS servers, which enables it to override addresses in the DNS. This prevents access to the listed sites by redirecting any connection attempts back to the local machine. Another feature of the HOSTS file is its ability to block other applications from connecting to the Internet, providing the entry exists.
You can use a HOSTS file to block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers. This is accomplished by blocking the Server that supplies these little gems. Example - the following entry 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net blocks all files supplied by that DoubleClick Server to the web page you are viewing. This also prevents the server from tracking your movements. Why? ... because in most cases "Ad Servers" like Doubleclick will open a separate connection on the webpage you are viewing.
